My pursuit of God’s glory and desire to help others grow in their knowledge of the Creator through every subject has led me to this tutoring opportunity at Utmost Academy. I’ve taught God’s Word to children from ages 3-12 for 15 years, most recently as a part of Community Bible Study. For the last 3 years, I have also been blessed by teaching several courses at Utmost Academy.

I earned a bachelors of science in animal and poultry science at Virginia Tech in 1998 and a masters of science from the Virginia/Maryland Regional college of Veterinary medicine in 2002. I met and married my husband at Tech during my graduate studies. The Lord then provided a full time position as a scientist at the Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services of Virginia where I used my research and laboratory experience to help determine causes of foodborne outbreaks. While working at the state laboratory, I was promoted to a senior scientist position in the food microbiology department.

After working at the state laboratory for 10 years, the Lord Jesus clearly called me home to disciple and educate our 3 children. This is my 15th year of homeschooling and my first senior graduated in June 2022. God’s faithfulness has kept me in awe of His works of wonder both in my life and in His world around us. I enjoy sharing my faith while working fervently to advance God’s kingdom.

American History

Students will journey on a trip across America as they survey the history of America from native peoples, European settlements, nation-building, and expansion through the modern age. Actively build your student’s biblical worldview, learning the political and faith perspectives that have impacted its history and cultural changes over time.

In this Masterbooks, American history (revised June 2023) course, your student will develop an understanding of American history trends, philosophies, and events through the use of:

• Critical thinking questions

• Examinations of historical theories surrounding a period or topic

• Clarified terms, concepts, and theories to be learned

• History makers who clearly changed the course of history

• Overviews and insights into worldviews

The Historical content in this volume includes the study of the Natives of the New World, Pilgrims and Puritans, Colonial life, Causes of the American Revolution, U.S. Constitution, Age of Reform, Antebellum Slavery, Revivalism, the American Civil War, Reconstruction, Immigration, the Wild West, the World Wars, the Vietnam War, African American History, and the War on Terrorism.

American History Teacher Guide:

• Daily Schedule, Student worksheets, critical thinking questions, and exams

• Learning objectives and answer keys with grading criteria

• Short essay questions to help the student comprehend and apply information presented

Course Features:

• 20-30 minutes per lesson, 5 days per week

• Designed for grades 9-12 in a one-year history course (1 credit)

• Can be combined with Masterbooks American literature curriculum for an integrated history/literature course

Original documents, speeches, and poetry will be reviewed while studying the history lessons. Weekly 1.5 hour class meetings will provide opportunity for asking questions, discussing literature, reviewing key points from each lesson, and to share short essays.
