Guitar Prelude: Guitar Basics
GRADE LEVEL: 9th - 12th
Class: Monday 1:30 - 2:30 P.M.
Music is a universal language impacting cultures far and wide for millennia, it stretches numerous genres, and the songs created through music are too many to count. One way of enjoying music is playing guitar, an art form in itself. Playing the guitar requires many skills combined, including determination, patience, gentleness, strength, resiliency, rhythm, pitch, and tempo. Playing the guitar will make the student both feel and think, and they can learn much about themselves and the world around them through this.
This guitar class will help the students Grades 5 – 8 learn the following:
BASICS OF GUITAR TECHNIQUES (chord families, rhythm, beginner leads, stage performance, creativity and feel)
BEGINNER THEORY (pitch, tempo, note recognition, time signature, loud/medium/soft dynamics, major/minor keys)
BASIC MUSIC GENRES (classic, rock, pop, jazz, Latin, country) in both sound Christian music and wholesome secular music.
CLASS GROUP CREATIVE PROJECT (end-of-year group project in which the class creates and plays their own original song)
*Student MUST have their own guitar (acoustic or electric). As long as it has 6 strings and can hold the tune, it can be a small or big guitar. Teacher will provide tuner during class time if needed.
